The Three Pines mysteries are all set in/near Quebec and feature Chief Inspector Armand Gamache. Gamache’s specialty is investigating crime by observing, listening, and intuitively discovering the hidden motivations and fears in his suspects. But the books are lightened by touches of wry humor and mouth-watering descriptions of food and coffee. The plots are sufficiently complicated but sensible so you may figure out part of the puzzle but you’ll still be surprised.
